Divisional Plan

Professional Learning Funding provided by Manitoba Education - Please provide details below

1) To date, how have you used the money your division received for K-8 teachers' LwICT professional learning in 2008-09 and 2009-10?

  • for the last two years, we have had a divisional Literacy with ICT Coordinator who was tasked with the role of assisting teachers & administrators with the infusion of technology across curricular areas and grade levels

2) What professional learning is occurring now because of the extra funding that you previously were not able to do?
  • A great deal of our PLC (Professional Learning Community) time is devoted to discussing the infusion of technology
  • The Literacy with ICT Coordinator was assigned approximately 25 priority days a year to provide release time for teachers
  • Release time was used to support small group sharing sessions with staff in different schools
  • Many schools have also found ways to timetable some co-teaching time for their teachers

3) Does your division have any strategies for ongoing professional learning (For example: Professional Learning Community - online, face-to-face, mentors, etc?)

  • PLCs are in place to promote LwICT through subject areas and throughout age groups.
  • Schools formally or informally create ICT leaders and leadership opportunities in order to share strategies and pedagogy supported by ICT.
  • Teachers create ICT communities through blogs, wikis and web 2.0 applications to share strategies.
  • "First Class" used to create communities/conferences.

4) What successful strategies would you like to recommend to other divisions?

  • Co-teaching opportunities and ICT mentorships have proven valuable.
  • On-line communities devoted to ICT professional learning and strategy sharing.
  • Emphasis on project/inquiry-based teaching strategies.
  • Student-owned web 2.0 projects.

Report Card Samples

5) How often do you report on Literacy with ICT during the school year?
  • K-5 students receive an anecdotal and summative assessment based on anecdotal observations, e-portfolios, and student self-assessment (formative assessment) on each report card.

6) Which grades are reporting on Literacy with ICT?
  • All grades report each term and grades 2,4,6 and 8 are assessed and reported on at the Division level.

7) When does the reporting occur?
  • On-going formative assessment and summative reporting at the end of each term.

8) What feedback have you received from parents regarding reporting of Literacy with ICT?

  • Limited feedback received.
  • Feedback that has been received has been positive. Parent ICT documents were welcomed and appreciated by families.

9) In certain circumstances, a child may have more than one teacher. How would/do your teachers report on a child's literacy with ICT in this circumstance? Please discuss with your divisional team and record some possible strategies to address this issue.
  • Grade-level and subject-area teachers communicate through PLCs and conferences to review individual ICT skills.

10) If there have been changes to your divisional statement of belief on reporting on LwICT, since last year, upload or insert the text below.
